In a heartfelt ceremony at the Manhyia Palace, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, imparted words of wisdom to his grandson, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (Napo), the newly selected running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The Asantehene urged Napo to conduct himself in a manner that would uphold the dignity of the party and its flag bearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
On July 9, 2024, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo presented the NPP’s flag bearer and his running mate to the Asantehene at a special durbar of chiefs. The Asantehene received the news of Napo’s nomination joyfully, recognizing it as a significant honor to the Royal House.
He emphasized the importance of humility and loyalty, advising Napo to follow directives from his superior and avoid any behavior that might undermine Dr. Bawumia’s confidence in him.
The Asantehene’s counsel follows reports of Napo’s alleged disrespectful conduct, which he urged his grandson to rectify. By doing so, Napo will not only uphold the reputation of the Royal House but also prove himself as a worthy running mate for the NPP.
With the Asantehene’s guidance, Napo is poised to make a positive impact in his new role and contribute to the party’s success in the upcoming elections.
