Former Chief Executive Officer of the Environmental Protection Agency, Dr. Henry Kwabena Kokofu, has called on supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to remain united and support Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO) to lead Ghana after the December 7 polls.
His comments follow the unanimous approval of the Energy Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, as the running mate to the flagbearer by the National Executive Council (NEC) of the party on Thursday, July 4, 2024. The party emphasized that Dr. Opoku Prempeh meets all the criteria for the position, hence the unanimous decision.
Reacting to the announcement on Atinka FM’s AM Drive with host Nana Yaw Fianko, Dr. Henry Kwabena Kokofu praised Dr. Opoku Prempeh, known in political circles as “NAPO,” for his experience and excellence in all the positions he has held. The former MP for Bantama also urged other potential nominees to fully support the team to ensure the party’s success in the upcoming elections.
“I wasn’t surprised after Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh was confirmed yesterday, and I’m ready to support the team to win the December elections,” Dr. Kokofu responded when asked if he was shocked by the news.
“I have already congratulated my brother Hon. Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO) and have pledged my unflinching support. We shall together prosecute the Breaking-The-8 Agenda,” he added.
Dr. Kokofu called on the rank and file of the party to unite and work towards winning the 2024 elections. “Let us all rally behind the Flagbearer and the Running Mate in unity. Reconciling and energizing the rank and file remains the only sure bet to clinch victory in the general elections come 2024,” he concluded.
